The 202o Tokyo Summer Olympics have been postponed, which made us think about the last Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, which was marred by many complaints about corruption, Zika virus, sewage, and crime. What gets overlooked in the Western media is the extreme poverty in the city, especially housing, which is a pressing problem for many Rio residents. As a matter of fact, squatters were forced out of an abandoned apartment complex last year to make way for building a hotel for Olympics participants.
